I hope everyone had a great summer break and I welcome all the boys and girls to third class for the coming academic year. I will be posting information, class work and news etc. here from time to time so keep an eye out!

Third class P.E. day is on Thursday (starting 5th September) so children can wear their tracksuits on this day.

Scribble Art; 2/9/19; From simple scribbles on a page we made some amazing and colourful pictures!

SESE 11/9/19

We were looking at the counties and provinces this week.  Here's a good website for extra information and activities.

3-D Art; 18/9/19

Do you know what the 'D' in 3-D means!? We do. And we did a 'coming at you' art lesson to prove it!

East Cork Athletics 2019
East Cork Schools cross country 2019 takes place on Friday September 27th at 11:00am at Father O'Neills sportsfield. Admission is 2 euro. Children must make their own way to the event, and will not be supervised by staff.

English 25-9-19
Our English story this week was 'The Owl who was afraid of the Dark' A story about a young Barn Owl who initially was indeed afraid of the dark. Surprising for the children today was the discovery that Barn Owls do not hoot, they screech, as the link below proves!

Art; 3/10/19 Autumn is here

We discussed the onset of Autumn and used a step by step technique to draw an Autumn tree from using a capital 'Y' on a page to start!. We added beautiful Autumn colours to finish.

8/10/19 Readathon: Third class will be  participating in the MS Readathon 2019. Beginning Friday October 11th, it runs until Monday November 11th. It is a fantastic way of encouraging your child to read and all for a great cause! See www.msreadathon.ie for more details.

8/10/19 English Writing:  Here are samples of the children's Recount writing. Recount writing is writing about an experience or a story or an event that has already happened, for example a trip somewhere, news, a story or a diary entry.

We wrote a recount on a story about "The Boy who Flew'' from our English reader a few weeks ago.. Excellent work as these pictures show (final draft).

22/10/19: Glenbower Wood Walk:  Third class will be participating in a Glenbower wood walk tomorrow (Wednesday 23rd) as part of the Annual Healthy Clubs Project Schools Walk. Looking forward to a good healthy day! Picture(s) to follow.

Readathon Update: Readathon 2019 finished on Monday November 11th. You have until November 25th to get in all monies raised. Well done everyone so far on all the reading and raising of money!

Irish Corner: 11/11/19 This weeks Irish verb is Ceannaigh (to buy). Aimsir Chaite (Past Tense). Remember it's pronounced 'Key' 'annig'

Note: As this is the first year the children are learning their multiplication and division tables it is important to remember that this is the first step only. They will be revising these in fourth, fifth and sixth also.

Any child experiencing difficulty presently with them, please do not hesitate to contact me.
