Resources for Parents to get your family active:
  • Go for walks after school and at the weekends
  •  Get dancing at home, especially on rainy days
  • Make a game out of household chores.
  • Turn TV ad breaks into fitness breaks.
  • Have a weekly sports night, where everyone in the family gets involved.
  •  (You could try using all of super trooper activities for that week as a good basis for this activity)
  • Let the kids help with work in the yard and with gardening – catch leaves, raking, sorting, digging, planting, etc.
  • Walk the dog.

Local PartnershipA  meeting that was held in Inch NS on September 28th where Coleman Motherway  and teachers from the local school met  (Brian (Killeagh), Nessa (Inch) and Dan (Kyle).  At this meeting we talked about how we could link the Healthy Clubs Project currently running in Killeagh (four clubs involved) with the  primary schools in our parish .  all five school are  presently involved in the  Active Flag Project so it was a  great opportunity for us to link with each other. The first suggestion we agreed to try together was to get the senior classes (6th in Killeagh, Inch and Clonpriest, the senior rooms in Kyle and Park) to meet up in Glenbower Wood on Thursday  October 27th, at 12.00 noon, for a Healthy Walk.   At the meeting it was agreed  that we will  run a few different initiatives over the course of the school year that will be mutually beneficial for the schools, the clubs, but most of all for our pupils and, by extension, our communities.

The Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated
and physically active school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often.
